We are now close to 100% sure that William Shipley Parker's father was named William. We believe that it is the same William Parker that left a will in Smith Co., Tennessee in 1817. There are records of Parker's and Shipley's in Tennessee, but due to repeated names it has been difficult to sort out. If William Shipley Parker's father is indeed William of Smith Co., TN, then his mother's name is Marian, perhaps Marian Shipley. There is no direct evidence to support this theory yet.
According to the census records Shipley was born in Pennsylvania. Our family tradition has it that the Parker's came from Ireland. Most likely, they came from Northern Ireland and had settled there some time earlier from England.
