Pleasant Grove Union Church
Pleasant Grove Union Church was formed in 1880 on land given by James M. Parker, his wife Matilda and a Mr. Brank. Story has it that it received the name Pleasant Grove from James Parker's daughter's who refered to the hilltop as having a "pleasant grove of oaks" on it. Early on, there was a small log building on the spot that served as church and schoolhouse. This was known locally as "slab college". A larger wooden structure was later built. In the early 1940's the current, stone building was constructed on the same property. The church was set up as a meeting place for the major denominations at the time, Methodist, Baptist, and Presbyterian.
