60th Anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima

August 6th, 2005

This date marks the begin of the sudden collapse and surrender of Japan in World War II. On August 6, 1945 an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima Japan. Two days later, the U.S.S.R. declared war on Japan and invaded Japanese controlled Manchuria, then on August 9th another atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. Interpreting Deed Information

I’m not quite sure where to fit this one under the categories I’ve laid out, I may have to think of a fresh spot. Once again I’ve discovered a great link thanks to Random Genealogy, this time on the topic of the Information that’s found in Deeds. He refers to a tutorial at GSC Associates. It gives a GREAT introduction to interpreting what you may find in Deed records. It’s very well done and it comes full of examples.

Hezekiah Alexander homesite tours

The Charlotte Museum of History gives tours of the Historic Hezekiah Alexander homesite “10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sunday, homesite tours 1:15 and 3:15 p.m. weekdays, 1:15, 2:15 and 3:15 p.m. weekends. 3500 Shamrock Drive.” According to The Charlotte Observer.

Several More county updates

I’m continuing to push on in the revision of county information. I think I’m in the downhill stretch…. Iredell, Jackson, Johnston, and Jones Counties all saw updates this afternoon. So you should be able to find a bit more detailed info now on their respective pages.

German Colonization of the Americas

The German colonization of the Americas consisted of a failed attempt to settle Venezuela in the 16th century.

Counties starting with the letter “H” now have been updated. That means Halifax, Harnett, Haywood, Henderson, Hertford, Hoke, and Hyde Counties all have more detailed information and links now.

Courland Colonization of the Americas

The Duchy of Courland was the smallest nation to colonize the Americas with a short-lived colony in Tobago during the 1654–1659, and again 1660–1689. Courland was established as a Duchy in 1561, a fief of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, in the modern Latvia. It had a population of only 200,000. Read the rest of this entry »

Thanks again to randomgenealogy.com he has found a place like ebay only for used genealogy books. Listing is free it says and they specialize in genealogy books and publications. Looks like a great resource.

Counties Starting with the letter ‘g’

I’ve just finished updating the counties starting with the letter “G”, so that means that Gaston, Gates, Graham, Granville, Greene, and Guilford Counties have all been updated on the second pass through the link revision. I’ve added a couple of research links on the right hand column as well. These include wikitree, which I mentioned last night. Also, The Genealogy Encyclopedia and Linkpendium have been added.
